Nation rock solid against terror: COAS

ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that nation will emerge triumphant in the ongoing war against terror.
General Kayani made these remarks while addressing a ceremony arranged at Police Lines, Peshawar, to pay rich tributes to NWFP Police for their invaluable sacrifices in the war against terrorism, says an ISPR press release issued here on Wednesday.
General Kayani said the sacrifices rendered by Frontier Police were highly commendable and such examples of valour were difficult to find. “Pakistan was founded in the name of Islam by our forefathers and each one of us should work for strengthening the country and make commitment towards achieving the goal of turning the country into a true Islamic state,” he remarked.
He also interacted with police and military leadership and lauded their combined efforts to ensure safety and security of Peshawar. He acknowledged the sacrifices by the rank and file of NWFP Police and also met families of Police martyrs. He announced Rs. 20 million for Police Shuhada Fund and reiterated that Army would continue to provide all possible support to the police.
The COAS also noted with appreciation the way the people of Peshawar have lived up to their proud traditions of bravery, resilience and grit during the recent spate of violence in the provincial metropolis.
He said that despite efforts by the terrorists to dent and dampen the spirit of the people of Peshawar, the City and its residents have displayed extraordinary resolve and tenacity.
General Kayani also visited Khyber Institute of Technical Education (KITE) run under Corps Headquarters where people from FATA are given technical training to equip them with requisite productive skills. The institute has so far trained 913 students in seven batches. General Kayani commended the innovative spirit behind the project.
The Chief of Army Staff paid a visit to Combined Military Hospital and appreciated the morale and spirit of soldiers injured during military operations. He also visited Lady Reading Hospital and inquired about the health of the victims of recent terrorists attacks in Peshawar.
Earlier Commander 11 Corps, Lieutenant General Muhammad Masood Aslam, received General Kayani on his arrival.
