5,400 MW power shortfall in country

Furnace oil import, has been increased by 68 per cent amid high demand from thermal power plants including IPPs.

Due to the growing appetite for power in the country, reliance on thermal power generation had been on the rise for the last two years with its greater usage in thermal power generation.

Meanwhile, the officials said that due to sabotage activity, supply of gas to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) from Zamzama Gas Field was disrupted a couple of days ago.

The officials said that necessary steps were being taken by the Sui gas companies to rectify the problem.

It is expected that the situation will normalise by Wednesday (today).
