Taseer warns Shahbaz govt
Source: Our STAFF REPORTER August 27, 2008 To a question whether or not the PPP would quit the Punjab Cabinet, he said a decision to this effect would be taken in couple of days. He, however, said that it was PML-N’s decision to pull out of coalition and not of PPP.
‘It’s they, not we, who decided to quit the coalition. It’s their decision not ours’, he observed.
Responding to a question about possible dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, the Governor said he had no such powers. He said Assemblies would complete their tenure.
Commenting on PML-N Presidential candidate, Justice (R) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, he sarcastically said, ‘I have come to know that some justice was also in the run’. He pretended as if he did not know his name.
He said PPP was the biggest party and symbol of Federation, and as such it was its right to field its candidate in Presidential election. The current election was going to be very important for Federation, he added.
After February 18 polls, he said, the PPP respected every party’s mandate and allowed minority parties to form govts in Punjab and NWFP, while taking the MQM in the provincial cabinet in Sindh despite having majority in that province.
He said his party did not believe in confrontational politics.
