Free all the way to Toronto
By AMRAIZ KHAN September 26, 2008 An aviation expert termed the incident a security hazard for the airline as well as for the country and said that the incident took place when Civil Aviation Authority is reviewing PIA security clearance for direct flights from Pakistan to Toronto.
USA Homeland Security has been monitoring all PIA flights departing for Trans-Atlantic destinations.
It has already objected to large number of categories exempted from security search at major airports in Pakistan, which included parliamentarians, members of security agencies, CAA staff etc.
The stowaway on PK 781 passenger flight claimed political asylum on landing at Toronto Airport without any passport or ticket.
The sources at Islamabad and Karachi airports said that this could not have been done in isolation and rather it was made possible with connivance of PIA Traffic Staff, PIA security, ASF and Immigration staff at Karachi and Islamabad airports. The sources in PIA claimed that inquiry into this effect was pressed by some influentials within the airline.
When contacted spokesman of the airline he said that no such incident had happened.
