Daylight saving time extended till Oct 31

She told the media that an amendment was being brought in property transfer law and registration act 1908 under which owners of the property would have to pay nominal fee for verification of their documents.

Sherry Rehman said drafting process on the new bill had already been initiated, adding that present government believes in accountability in conformity with the spirit of democracy and the charter of democracy and was trying to evolve a comprehensive mechanism.

“The Cabinet approved the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment Bill 2008) which provides that the condemned prisoners, on whom death sentence has been passed by the Sessions Court, will not be confined to death cell unless the death sentence is confirmed by the High Court or the Supreme Court in case of appeal”, she said.     

“The Cabinet has also approved an amendment in the Registration Act 1908 that stipulates the registration of property document must be processed by advocates.  It will check the cases of fraud in property cases”, she said.    

She said that the Cabinet had approved the summary of the Narcotics Division, seeking the signing of MoU between Pakistan and India on drug demand reduction and prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals and related matters. “Approval was also accorded to the summary of the Ministry of Sports to initiate negotiations with Vietnam for signing an agreement for cooperation in the fields of sports”, she said.

The Minister said that the Cabinet had approved the extension life of Pak-Libya Holding Company for another 30 years. Sherry Rehman said that the Cabinet was informed that Prime Minister’s Housing Development Programme had attracted an investment of US $10 billion. “The government has already signed an MoU with the International Company that would be investing for the construction of one million houses in Pakistan under this scheme”, she added.      

She said that the government was realizing the problem of load-shedding being faced by the people and this particular issue had already been discussed by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to give relief to power consumers during Ramazan. On a question about provision of essential items to people during Ramazan, she said Economic Monitoring Committee (EMC) would announce a package in this regard.
