Reappointment disappoints Nawaz Sharif
Source: Our monitoring desk August 28, 2008 Talking to a private TV channel on Wednesday, Nawaz showed his utter disappointment over the restoration of deposed judges, saying favourite judges were being restored and this was against the very spirit of Murree Declaration. “This is totally unacceptable,” said Nawaz. He informed the PML-N had submitted an application in the Senate for sitting on opposition benches in the Upper House. He said that his partly left the ruling coalition because the objectives were not being achieved. The coalition should have undone all the unconstitutional steps taken during the last eight years, he said, adding that the deposed judges should have been reinstated with integrity and honour.
Nawaz said that he personally respected PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari and wanted to respond positively to the sentiments he had expressed on television, but no compromise will be done as far as the issue of supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law was concerned.
