Army to abide by govt decision: Kayani

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army Friday reiterated its resolve to fight the scourge of terrorism and extremism that had spilled into country's western regions particularly Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), from Afghanistan.
This reiteration of commitment transpired during a meeting of Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani with President Pervez Musharraf here on Friday.
According to official sources, General Kayani briefed the President about the role of Pakistan Army in combating the scourge of terrorism and extremism in FATA.
The Chief of the Army Staff also briefed the President on the security situation along the Pak-Afghan border and FATA.
General Kayani, sources said, had highlighted the government multi-pronged strategy to combat terrorism in all its manifestations with selected use of force as the last option in case others failed to achieve the desired objectives.
He also informed the President about NATO forces' recent attack on Pakistani military post on Pak-Afghan border killing eleven soldiers, including an officer of the Pakistan Army.
 President condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation as to how and why such an incident had taken place against the friendly forces also engaged in fighting menace of terrorism.      
President Pervez Musharraf reiterated the Pakistan's resolve to fight terrorism on its soil and never to allow aliens to carry out operations on the country's soil.
President lauded the services and sacrifices being rendered by the Pakistan Army for eradication of terrorism and extremism, adding that Pakistan Army had achieved great successes in elimination of terrorism.
He also said that while the multi-pronged approach was needed to keep away the people from extremism, but terrorism must be combated with full force and all the available resources.
