Zardari phones Sonia

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned attacks in Mumbai in which more than 100 people were killed, and called for strict measures to purge the region of militants, state media reported.
President Asif Ali Zardari "stressed the need for taking strict measures to eradicate terrorism and extremism from the region," the Associated Press of Pakistan said.
In a separate message Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani also "strongly condemned the terrorist attacks," the news agency said.
Gilani stressed the need for "concerted efforts to make the region a peaceful place to live," it said.
President Zardari also telephoned India's congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and condemned the terrorist attacks.
He said the killing of innocent people was a "detestable act" adding: "militancy and extremism in all its forms and manifestations had to be eliminated and all countries need to cooperate with each other in this regard".
