10,000 cusecs water being stolen from dams

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Lower flows in link canals have alarmed the Ministry of Water and Power that suspects water is being stolen upstream from dams.
According to a private TV channel, the ministry has asked IRSA and WAPDA to find out how the water is going missing. IRSA has been having trouble distributing water among the provinces because of a shortage in the Chashma Link Canal that is down to 4,000 cusec from a normal 12,000 per month.
An extra 44,000 cusec had to be released from Mangla Dam as opposed to a normal 39,000 cusec to overcome the shortage.
Chashma storage was perilously low but that flows were likely to return to normal as more ice was melting in the hot weather.
