Lawyers stage countrywide sit-ins

LAHORE - Lawyers across the country are back on the streets as they launched new phase of their movement by holding protest rallies and sit-ins in all major cities.

The traffic was brought to a standstill for two hours from 12pm to 2pm.

This time the rallies were marked with slogan, ‘Go Zardari Go’ whom lawyers considered a tumbling block in the way of deposed judges reinstatement without fresh oath. The lawyers were calling upon PPP govt to fulfil its promise and reinstate the judges without administering fresh oath.

On the appeal of National Coordination Council, lawyers protested and staged sit-in on the key roads across the country.

In metropolitan, the lawyers adopted a new strategy as they did not take out a joint rally rather they staged a sit-in on four different points of the City.

The two major bars of the City-the Lahore High Court Bar Association and Lahore Bar Associationâ€"â€"staged separate sit-in while the Cantt courts and Model Town lawyers repeated the same activity on the roads outside the premises of their respective bars.

Political workers of different political parties, representatives of civil society and students also participated in the protests.

The protesters chanted full throated slogans against PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. The main show of the City was staged on The Mall outside Punjab Assembly building.

Led by Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan lawyers together with civil society activists and workers of political parties held protest demo and a two-hour long sit-in at Faisal Chowk on The Mall Road for the restoration of Nov 2 judiciary while braving the blazing sun on their heads.

LHCBA members staged a sit-in at Faisal Chowk while the lawyers belonging to District Courts and Lahore Bar Association (LBA) held a separate sit-in demo for two hours at PMG Chowk.

A stage was set up there for delivering speeches while rugs were laid down on the road under open sky for the protesters to stage sit-in.
