ITP to launch education campaign for road users
By MAQSOOD TIRMIZI July 4, 2008 ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is going to launch one-month education campaign urging the road user to fasten seat belts and avoid the use of mobile phone during driving.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Muhammad Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, while talking to media persons here on Thursday, said the ITP officials would educate the road users during the ongoing month (July) and start issuing tickets with effect from August 1, 2008 over violation of traffic rules like cell phone usage during driving and reluctance in fasten seat belts.
He said the fine amount, which was collected by the National Bank of Pakistan now might be submitted in the office of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) while the NADRA Chairman and Inspector General of Police (IGP) had been agreed to collect the fine amounts through the e-Sahulat Scheme.
“There are 21 branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) which collect the fine tickets till 3:00pm but through this agreement between the NADRA and ITP, commuters can submit the fine amount round the clock like other utility bills,” he added.
