Environment Day tomorrow amidst hopes for change

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Just after a day, the world would be celebrating another World Environment Day amidst challenges to control carbon emissions and avoid the severe impacts of climate change.
Like other nations Pakistan would also be reiterating on the Day, its commitment to international as well as national obligations for preserving our environment and ensuring better future for the coming generations.
Number of events have been planned by the Environment Ministry to revive the spirit and raise awareness on environmental issues among masses particularly school children. Students from number of schools in federal capital would be participating these events being planned for National Library and Lakeview Park on June 05.
One-UN Program, IUCN, WWF and other partners will be collaborating with the Environment Ministry to hold these events and celebrate the day in befitting manner.
Having the main focus of these activities on awareness raising, the Ministry would be focussing different segments of society with special emphasis on school children and media.
As Pakistan is celebrating 2009 as National Year of Environment, some of regional and global activities would also be launched from Pakistan and number of important environmentalists and diplomats will be participating these activities.
Officials at Ministry told this news agency, the Program would start from a Media Workshop on June 04, 2009 where the experts would highlight different environmental issues for orientation of the working journalists on latest research and reports.
Journalists from twin cities and all the four provinces, Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir will be participating in the workshop.
On June 05, different events have been organized in connection with this year’s theme “Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change.”
