Deciphering message

October 3, 2008

A young lad was trying to decipher the following letter from his girl friend: “Dear John, I hope you are not still angry. I want to explain that I was really joking when I told you I did not mean what I said about reconsidering my decision not to change my mind. Please believe I really mean this. Love Grace”.

In his maiden address to joint session of Parliament eleven day young President Asif Ali Zardari, was equally equivocal as Grace. Instead of categorically calling for repeal of objectionable articles of the constitution as repeatedly promised by his party, he proposed that a committee of all political parties be formed to revise the constitution’s controversial 17th Amendment and Article 58 (2) (b). I am sure he knew that Article 58 (2) (b) was part of 17th Amendment and not a separate entity. Maybe the mention of them separately was intended. It could be a part of ambiguity scheme.
