Civic society, Ulema condemn Swat girl flogging

ISLAMABAD - A bizarre situation developed on Saturday during protest demonstration organised by civil society against the flogging of girl in Swat when a number of seminaries students reached the protest venue and started chanting slogans in the favour of Taliban.
According to details, the civil society and NGOs representatives were staging a protest rally at Super Market against the flogging of a 17-year girl in Swat. They were of the view that flogging of the girl was an anti-Islamic act. They were chanting slogans against Taliban and were carrying placards and banners in scribed with different slogans against the Talibanisation.
The peaceful procession caught an unprecedented heat on the emergence of a number of youth with beard.
The civic society representatives were of the view that the state could not remain silent at this heinous act of brutal violence against women. They urged the government to take note of the case and bring to book those who involved in this heinous crime. On the contrary, the seminaries’ students blamed that the NGOs were pro-American and anti-Islamic.
Agencies add: Earlier, Human and women rights organisations, legal fraternity and civil society organisations have strongly condemned the flogging of 17 years old girl in Swat demanding the government to take strict action to abolish violence based extremism and Qazi courts.
IA Rehman Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) harshly criticised the lashing of the girl by Taliban court saying “that Islam never allows such heinous crime and the incident must be condemned extremely”.
The footage of lashing the girl in front of huge male gathering was criticised by general masses especially women activists saying it a cruel act against humanity. Women rights organisations showed their concern over the issue demanding of the government to end such brutal acts otherwise the waves of so-called Sharia system will spread all over the country including capital territory Islamabad which will sabotage women peace and would nullify women empowerment struggle in the country.
