Sherry concerned over rise in polio cases
Source: APP August 11, 2008 ISLAMABAD - The Federal Ministry for Health is concerned about the rise in the number of polio cases in the country and is devising a strategy to counter the Challenges hampering the effectiveness of the EPI programme.
The minister has directed the Health Ministry to engage in a dialogue with the authorities at the provincial and district level into contain the problem.
In this regard, the Director General Federal Ministry of health met with the provincial health authorities of Sindh, and the regional and national WHO experts to chalk out strategy to counter challengers impending the immunisation campaign.
“The situation in Sindh where 11 cases have been reported so far is a causes of concern”, said Ms Sherry Rehman briefing the media about the government’s efforts to address the issue.
“Unlike the tribal areas, the Sindh Province has no resistance to the immunisation drive. The persistent rise in the polio cases points to deficiencies in administration and management of the campaign. This must be addressed on an urgent basis.
