Raise in varsities fee structure multiplies students' woes

By ASMA GHANI October 11, 2008

ISLAMABAD-The public sector universities have increased the fee structures following the cut in the Higher Education Commission’s budget by the government thus transferring the financial burden on the students.

Almost all the public sector universities, including Quaid-I-Azam University, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, International Islamic University Islamabad and Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) have increased the fee structure making the higher education out of reach for the poor.

The reason behind the increase of fee is that the government slashed Rs 5.7 billion from the fourth quarter of last year’s budget of HEC.
