Substandard material used in four primary schools

By: Asma Ghani | Published: July 18, 2008

ISLAMABAD - Lives of four primary schools children have been left to the mercy of school buildings that have been poorly constructed with substandard material.
In the project of the establishment of four primary schools in sectors I-8/2, I-8/3, G-11/1, and G-11/2 both material and construction was substandard, official documents available with TheNation revealed.
Substandard material had been used in the lavatory block of the school G-11/1, which has resulted in seepage. Due to substandard construction and the October 8 earthquake, cracks have been developed in the walls. The construction work of school G-11/2 was required to be completed by December 16,2004 but it was completed on November 16 2005 with the delay of one year.
The primary school at I-8/2 is functional since March 2005. Leakage has developed in the toilet block of ground floor and the floor of veranda got damaged from left side due to poor construction within the short period of three years.
Some Rs 1.491 million had been expended in construction of a primary school in PAF Complex in Sector E-9, which was not included in PC-1 thus the funds sanctioned for four primary schools were diverted to favour PAF Complex Primary School. A sum of Rs 425,333 on account of Annual Ground Rent was paid by Pak PWD to the CDA which should have been paid by the FDE to CDA.
