CDA, Pindi govt bodies to join hands

ISLAMABAD - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Rawalpindi Administration have agreed to
form two committees to resolve the various issues relating to expansion of the Service Road (West) along the
Islamabad Expressway from Faizabad to Karal Chowk.
In this connection, a high level meeting was held here at the CDA Headquarter, in which the Authority Chairman
Tariq Mehmood Khan and Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed discussed various issues relating to the
expansion of road.
CDA’s Member (Engineering), Tahir Shamshad briefed the meeting about the various bottlenecks such as land
owned by the Army, three graveyards, garbage dumps and sewage water in the right of way of the road.
The meeting decided to constitute two committees, one headed by Mustafain Kazmi, DG (Civic Management)
CDA to resolve the issues relating to sanitation, garbage and sewage, while the other committee, headed by
Sarwar Sindhu, Deputy DG (Planning), CDA would take care of the land acquisition issues.
It was also decided in the meeting that Rawalpindi Administration would also review the Building Control Laws
for the construction of buildings in the vicinity of Service Road (West).
The Rawalpindi Administration would also be responsible for providing alternate land for the graveyards and the
garbage dumps it was decided in the meeting.
Chairman CDA, on the occasion, said that the reconstruction of the said Service Road would not only facilitate
the residents of the adjoining areas but would also share the traffic burden over the Islamabad Expressway,
which, he said, was the main link between the twin cities.
He said that initially the eight kilometre long road would be reconstructed, expanded and later on it would be
dualized. DCO, CPO Rawalpindi and other high officials of the CDA and Rawalpindi Administration also
attended the meeting.
