CDA plans to install 80 computerised traffic signals
Published: June 19, 2009
ISLAMABAD (APP)- Capital Development Authority (CDA) has prepared a plan to install computerised traffic
signals at 80 intersections in different parts of the city in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The source said that CDA would hopefully allocate funds in its budget for installation of computerised traffic
system in the city.
The source said that authority had installed some 120 traffic signals around 39 years ago but till date they had
not been replaced.
Computerized traffic signals will also have a camera to record movement of traffic so that signals violators could
be spotted. The source said that project aimed to properly monitor vehicular traffic will also help to enhance
security arrangements.
Traffic signals would be controlled from a control room and those involved in violation of traffic rules could be
approached even at their houses as the images of their vehicles would be captured by camera.
Meanwhile, residents and the commuters have asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install
modern waiting room at G-6/2, Melody stop.
Talking to this news agency, residents said that waiting room was giving a shabby look, which was a spot on the
beauty of the area. Notwithstanding, modern waiting rooms have been set up at different stops including CDA
stop, GPO, Super-Market and other places but it was remained unchanged.
They said the existing waiting room was constructed a long ago and was leaving bad impression who visit the
city. They said people also use to throw garbage near the waiting room, which causes stink.
Commuters also said that modern waiting room as installed at the other bus stops were not only adding more
beauty to the city but are also more comfortable. They said the newly installed waiting rooms don’t need extra
cleanness.
They appealed Chairman CDA to issue directives regarding installation of modern waiting room at the said bus
stop.
