USAID provides $8.4m grant in food aid to Pakistan
September 19, 2008 ISLAMABAD (APP) - The United States through United States Agency for International Development and the United Nations World Food Programme, Thursday signed an agreement with Food and Agriculture Ministry to provide $8.4 million food aid programme.
Addressing the signing ceremony here at local hotel, the American ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson assured full cooperation and support from US to Pakistan to resolve its food crisis.
She said, “The programme will benefit thousands of Pakistanis who are affected by the rising of basic food items.”
The Ambassador said she was pleased that many of the beneficiaries are Pakistani school children who are living in the most underdeveloped areas where the programme is being launched.
She said the food support programme will also encouraged the parents to send their children to school.
The Ambassador said US is proud to be a partner with WFP in this food assistance programme as it is a noble work.
She said US has already been helping Pakistan in different sectors particularly in the food area.
