President's visit to Murree agonises tourists

ISLAMABAD - President Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Muree caused great problems to tourists who visited Muree last weekend. People remained stuck in worst traffic jam for hours caused by the arrival of President to the area.

‘TheNation’ learnt that tourists from across Pakistan visited Muree for the purpose of hiking, shopping and other leisure activities faced immense difficulties owing to the tour of President Pervez Musharraf.

Thousands of vehicles were seen crawling at a snail’s pace for several hours on roads leading to Muree from Islamabad and Abbottabad, with people having no alternate option then to bear with the situation.

The Link Road from Islamabad to Muree remained stuck with motorists at Jheka Gali, Sunny Bank and the surrounding areas.

The local authorities and the district administration completely failed to cope with the worst kind of situation faced by the people at that time.

Many cases of manhandling of motorists by traffic police have also been reported.
