ISLAMABAD - Jamal Shah, the Visual Arts Director of Pakistan National Council of the Arts, has finally resigned from his post. "It is an important institution for promotion of visual and performing arts.
However it could not play an effective role for achieving its basic aims owing to internal politics, lack of recourses and lack of coordination among its employees," he said, while talking about his resignation here on Thursday.
"Besides being working for PNCA, I was busy in so many activities that have been ignored due to my association with the gallery. I had joined it for a specific time period with the aim of helping its management and it was decided that as I will quit once things improved," he further added.
Jamal Shah, who was associated with two major organizations of art, the Hunerkada and PNCA at a same time, at last decided to quit from the PNCA. In 1992, Hunerkada was founded by Jamal as a non-government and not-for-profit college with a committed program of propagating and promoting Visual and Performing Arts. He joined PNCA in 2007 as the Visual Arts Director. It is pertinent to mention here that in recent past, Jamal Shah had resigned from PNCA with a view to give full time to Hunerkada. However, he was still associated with the institution as the authority did not accept his resignation. "PNCA must work autonomously but it is totally under the control of Culture Ministry. Whether it is a matter of holding events or deciding anything about its administration, all decisions are being made in Ministry".
