Letter prepared to request UN to probe into BB's assassination
May 23, 2008 A letter of request has been prepared to request UN Secretary General to form an International Commission to probe into the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. This was stated by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Law Minister Farooq H. Naek at a joint news conference here Thursday. They said the letter has been prepared in consultation with Ministries of Law, Interior and Foreign Affairs. They said Pakistan's permanent envoy to the UN has been directed to approach the UN Secretary General and request for an appointment. On getting appointment, the Foreign Minister and Law Minister will go to New York and request UN Secretary General for formation of Commission. They will also hold meetings with the representatives of permanent members of the UN Security Council and friendly countries. They said this is a great tragedy with international repercussions and we want an independent investigation into it. They said that the entire Pakistani nation has been on the tenterhook after the tragic martyrdom of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and want to know about the perpetrators, financers and conspirators of this heinous crime. They said the National Assembly and all the Provincial Assemblies have adopted unanimous resolutions calling for UN investigation into the assassination of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto.These resolutions reflect the aspirations of the people of Pakistan as elected representatives from all the parties supported the resolutions. To a question, the Ministers ruled out the impression that the UN investigation may harm Pakistan's sovereignty.
