Abolition of LG system opposed

RAWALPINDI - The Rawal Town Council has unanimously adopted a resolution against the abolishment of Local Government System and appointment of administrators in local bodies.
The session of Rawal Town was held at Jinnah Hall with convenor Farooq Azam in chair here on Saturday.
Addressing the session, Town Nazim Sheikh Rashid Shafiq said that corruption charges against members belonging to treasury benches were just a political victimisation. He strongly criticised the provincial government for stoppage of development funds and projects in the city.
“If some body has any proof of corruption he should bring it to the house so the culprits should be punished”, he added.
He said that Lei Express Way was the project to ease the traffic load on the city roads as all the other projects including Elevated Expressway could not be implemented on the ground. He also demanded of the Punjab government to restore the development funds of the city.
On the occasion opposition leader Sohail Pasha said that the current local government system had resolved even the minute problems of the citizens. He demanded of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary to take action against the Punjab government for abolishing the local bodies system as the system had roots in masses.
On the occasion opposition and ruling members including Rana Sohail Pasha, Haji Sher Zaman, Begum Nasim Ali and Begum Yasim also demanded of the Punjab government to restore the local government funds as early as possible and condemned the abolishment of local government system.
Sardar Raza Aslam, Raja Mehmood Akhter, Amin Butt, Sadaf joshi, Raja Javed Abbasi, Syeda Nasim Ali, Raja Imtiaz, Ishtiaq Gill and Mirza Mehmood Mughal also attended the session.
The session also extended the proceedings of the last meeting and approved the contracts for the next year of Municipal Wagon Stand, public toilets and car parking.
