'Police to thwart terror acts'

RAWALPINDI - A special Anti-Terrorism Unit of police has been established to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists while this squad would be functional soon after Eid-ul-Azha.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Muhammad Aslam Tarin told this while addressing a ceremony of distributing certificates to the best wardens and successful students of driving course here on Wednesday. The RPO also remarked that operation “Raha-e-Nijat” in South Wazirstan was yielding successful results while the terrorists network had been weakened and their nefarious designs would be eliminated.
He said that terrorists’ evil plans would be frustrated with the latest equipped weapons and with the induction of Anti Terrorist Unit while this unit would be functional soon after Eid-ul-Azha. Tarin said that a comprehensive security plan had been devised ahead of Eid-ul-Azha while the security of the mosques, Imambarghs, bazzars and the other religious places had been put on high alert.
He said that search operation was also being conducted in various parts to check the identity and many suspects had been arrested for interrogation. He said that a campaign against the unclaimed SIMS was successfully continued and providing help to unearth the criminals. The RPO remarked that all available resources have been utilized to eradicate the crime from the society.
He said that traffic system had been improved with the induction of wardens and people should show tolerance while driving on the road. Muhammad Aslam Tarin asked the warden to behave politely and with well mannered since a lot of complaints had been registered that wardens were ill mannered in their dealing with the public.
However, he asserted that corruption from traffic police has been rooted out.
Chief Traffic Officer Dr.Akhtar Abbas, SP Pothar Kamran Adil, SP Traffic Ishtaiq Shah, In-charge education Wing Afefa Shumail, DSP’s and a large number of wardens participated in the ceremony. Later, the chief guest distributed certificates among the students who had completed the driving course.
