Senior official, family manhandled

By SIKANDER SHAHEEN August 27, 2008

ISLAMABAD - Estate Office here demonstrated worst exhibition of misuse of power when it on Tuesday harassed, abused and threatened the family of a senior governmental official in a bid to vacate his house.

Dr Saeed Ahmed, Senior Director Health, Capital Development Authority (CDA), told TheNation that armed personnel of Estate Office, Islamabad, led by Joint Estate Officer, Obaid-ud-Din, entered his official residence on Tuesday morning, thrashed his family, abused and severely beaten his servants and threw the luggage out of the house.

Dr Saeed said that he had been residing in House No 5, category 2, I-8/1, for the last 21 years.

The said house is allotted to his wife Dr Naheed Fatima, Senior Medical Officer, CDA. Initially, the house was under the entitlement of Estate Office. However, the residence had been allotted to Dr Naheed Fatima some seven years ago. In return, the CDA gave another residence of the same category to Estate Office in Street 9, I-8/1.

Dr Naheed was not asked to move from her present accommodation on humanitarian grounds, as she was suffering from hepatitis C, mentioned Dr Saeed.

“The issue had been resolved some seven years back and alternative accommodation of equal standard had been provided to Estate Office by the CDA in the same sector. But all of a sudden, some officials of Estate Office have started harassing us,” he revealed.
