Accreditation system for teachers suggested

They were of the opinion that quality of teaching and learning in teacher education institutions was far from satisfactory level in Pakistan, thus there was a need of restructuring the teacher education system in the country.

They said that many studies pointed out the absence of a quality assurance mechanism of teacher education had allowed teaching institutions to develop and implement teacher education programmes at their discretion leading to uneven and poor quality of education in the country.

Having thoroughly studied education system in the USA and given the needs of Pakistani society, Dr Sharon Siverts said that Pakistan should introduce international standards for quality teacher education, including fieldwork, internship and performance based assessments.

She said that there was a need to hold social dialogue to take all stakeholders on board to make the system more effective for upgrading teacher education.
