Accreditation system for teachers suggested
August 28, 2008 Dr Gregor Allen Ramsey said that there was a need of political will in addition to sustained efforts by the concerned authorities to produce quality teachers for development of a country.
“In the end it is the political argument and will that wins the day, and it is important to bring the decision makers along the system is being developed”, he observed.
He suggested that officials of the ministry should also take concrete measures to acquire input from all stakeholders within the country to develop a viable system for producing quality teachers.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Secretary Jahangir Bashir said that the government was aware of importance of quality teachers and it had been stated in draft of the National Education Policy that Teacher training arrangements, accreditation and certification would be standardized and institutionalized.
He said that Pakistan had already taken some steps and the HEC had established Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (ACTE), which was working with STEP to develop National Standards for Teacher Education and the Guidelines of Institutional and Programmatic Accreditation, Certification and Licensing System.
