By NAVEED BUTT September 27, 2008 The meeting also decided to constitute a special committee, headed by Senator Zaheer-ud-Din Babar Awan as its Convenor. The committee will include Senators Col (Retd) Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and Syed Javed Ali Shah as its members. It will be holding its first meeting after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Babar Awan said after the Marriott incident, it was high time to wake up and put in place measures urgently needed to avoid such incidents in future.
The meeting directed the ICT Police and administration to start working on reducing the entry points into Islamabad from the present 34 to 10-12 with a view to regulate entry of vehicles and personnel into the territory. The meeting also recommended machine-readable number plates of vehicles with the help of Nadra and other relevant agencies. It instructed the ICT administration to check the credentials of the owners before registering their vehicles.
