'Pakistan okays National Breast Cancer Screening Programmes'

ISLAMABAD (NNI)- A one-day symposium on ‘Early Detection of Women’s Cancers concluded at MCH Training Centre, PIMS, Islamabad was organised by Gynea Department, PIMS with the collaboration of UNFPA.

Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Director of PIMS, Dr Abdul Majeed Rajput said “We are associated with activities related to prevention/early detection of cancers in women. In this regard, MCH centre under the direction of Prof Ghazala Mahmood and her dedicated trainees have launched a cervical screening programme for which well equipped fully functional a cervical screening room has been dedicated and all women belonging to reproductive age group are being screened regular intervals”.

He said he is proud to be associated with national breast screening programme. PIMS has been selected as one of the major centers for screening the breast cancers. PC-I has been prepared and is in the process of approval. Dr. Rakhshanda Rasheed, Associate Prof. General Surgery, PIMS is coordinating with the Ministry in this regard. PIMS has not only been providing health care to the patients, it has also been involved in imparting education and training to all cadres of health professionals.
