By SIKANDER SHAHEEN August 29, 2008

ISLAMABAD - The sale of substandard milk in the Capital is posing some serious health hazards besides severe ailments thus adding to the miseries of the residents, who have no other option but to buy cheaper milk to save money.

TheNation learnt that the residents of almost all the sectors of the Capital registered their complaints against the milk being provided to them by milkmen. People are prone to buy natural diary milk since it offers cheaper rates as compare to the packed milk being sold in the market.

It is learnt that the milk being sold by the milkmen is divided into different price ranges according to its quality. Ordinarily, Rs 34 are charged for providing the milk with the cheapest quality. The milk being sold at the said price range comprises half water and half milk. “Mostly, the milk that is sold between the price range of Rs 34 to Rs 39 is extremely substandard”, lamented Mrs Asghar who has been using natural milk for over three decades. “We cannot afford tetra pack since it is sold at Rs 50 per litre”, she added.
