37 embassies functioning in residential areas, Lashari tells Senate committee

The embassies and foreign missions, functioning in residential areas, include embassies of Algeria, Norway, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Syria, Hungary, Denmark, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Philippines, Belgium, Malaysia, Sudan, Oman, Libya, Brazil, Romania, Afghanistan, Thailand, Bangaldesh, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Holland, Korea, Portugal and Portugal (Chancery), British Council, Greece and visa office, Republic of Northern Cyprus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Finland and Latvia, UNDP and UNO.

"Embassies of Australia, Saudi Arabia, Holland and Korea have constructed their building in diplomatic enclave but still functioning in residential areas", the Chairman said. He said CDA was working on development of an area of 788.40 acres for extension of diplomatic enclave and it would be developed in three years.      

The committee also directed Islamabad administration to crack down on rest houses and massage centres to check their immoral and illegal activities and asked the ICT administration to present a report regarding it within a week. The members of the committee strongly protested over non-participation of Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman A Malik in the meeting and decided to inform the Prime Minister about it.
