Rise in fares after CM's nod

August 2, 2008

“The transport department would submit a summery on hike in fare to provincial Transport Minister who would recommend it to Sindh Chief Minister for approval,” Alam told PPI on Friday. Official said neither he had promised the transporters of rise in fare nor any meeting is scheduled with them on Saturday. Alam said the transporters had met Sindh Transport Minister and demanded rise in fare. “Although the transporters were promised for raising fare by Rs2 to 3 but it would be notified after approval of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

It may be recalled that the transporters had shortened their 2-day strike against hike in petroleum prices on the assurance of transport minister that the fare would be enhanced by Rs.3 and notification would be issued in a couple of days. While the notification is still awaited, the transporters have started charging enhanced fares in the city.

“No person has complained me of charging inflated fares,” transport secretary said to a question.
