Source: PPI August 3, 2008

An influential landlord of Larkana had occupied government forests of Ketti Mumtaz besides supporting bandits in these forests for kidnapping people, Mirza accused.

The landlord used forests for hunting while common people were stopped from passing through them and looted by the bandits on the behest of the landlord, he said.

However, now the PPP-led government had ended the occupation of the landlord on Ketti Mumtaz forest besides constructing two roads passing through the forest, he added.

A number of Sindhi waderas (landlords) are involved in deforesting by cutting trees, Mirza said, but, strict action would be taken against all these elements.

To a question, Mirza said the previous rulers committed so mistakes that it is not possible to correct them within first 100 days of the present government.

Referring to crime ratio, Mirza claimed media had also acknowledged decrease in crimes after PPP came to power.
