Zardari won't have to appear before courts

They recalled the ultimate sacrifice of those including the martyrs of May 12 and April 9, 2008 who laid down their lives for the cause of democracy and the rule of law in Pakistan. He saluted those brave members of the legal fraternity, the civil society, the media and political activists across the country who fought for the cause of restoration of parliamentary democracy and the rule of law in Pakistan.
Later, protest gatherings were organised in Bar associations and protest rallies were taken out. In Karachi, a meeting of general body of Bar association was held followed by a sit-in protest at MA Jinnah Road.
On the other side, a General Body meeting of the Sindh High Court Bar Association was held at “Iftikhar Hall”, which was presided over by its President Rasheed A Rizvi, in a resolution was unanimously adopted that SHCBA along with the entire legal community of the country will always fight for the rule of law and independence of judiciary in Pakistan.
Due to efforts of SHCBA all unconstitutional acts of November 3 were reversed, PCO was declared ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘doctrine of necessity’ was buried through the verdict of Supreme Court on July 31, 2009, it observed.
The House also unanimously passed the resolution that on this second anniversary of Musharraf’s reprehensible attack upon the Constitution, the rule of law, the independence of judiciary and the freedom of media; this House extends its appreciation to all judges, lawyers, journalists, political activists and members of the civil society who bravely resisted such extra-constitutional measures and rendered great sacrifices in ensuring the return of democracy and an independent judiciary to Pakistan.
This House further denounces all who initiated, collaborated and colluded in that infamous attempt to subjugate the judiciary, the Bar and the media and calls for a public trial of Musharraf and all those who aided and abetted him in his subversion of the Constitution. We also reiterate our commitment to maintain the independence of the Bar and continue with the struggle for an independent judiciary and the strengthening of constitutionalism and the rule of law in Pakistan.
