KARACHI - The chakki atta price at retail stage in the city has exceeded Rs. 35 per kg while the rate of fine atta has surged to Rs 28-30 per kg, The Nation learnt on Friday.
Retailers said that the price of chakki atta has increased to 36-37 rupees/kg in the posh areas and 34-35 rupees in other areas while the price of fine flour is in the range of 28-30 rupees a kg.
“There is not enough that atta available here, forget the price and get it at whatever rate the flour is available,” remarked a retailer. He said the mill owners have reduced the supply of flour ahead of Eid holidays with the intention to mint more profit through controlled supply in the open market.
This is worth noting that this amount that has being demanded by the retailers is higher than the government’s declared prices. There are reports that few chakkis have been charging Rs. 330 per 10 kg. In this way the amount of chakki atta has mounted up to Rs.33 per kg.
The government run utility stores have been selling fine atta at the rate of Rs. 155 per 10 kg. This makes per kg fine atta at the rate of Rs. 15.50 and it needs not to mention here in what circumstances the flour is available at these stores.
This huge difference in the prices of the fine atta being sold at the retail and at the utility store shows that the government has failed in implementing the announced prices of flour.
