Munib criticises media over 'false news'
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER October 3, 2008 Mufti Munibur Rehman, on the second day of Eidul Fitr was addressing an Eid Millan party at Darul Uloom Amjadia Trust, Bahadurabad. He said, “I want to sacrifice my life in the way of Islam and want to inform the nation that since the days of General Ziaul Haq, no government at the federal level had ever intervened the decisions of Ruit-i-Hilal Committee. Even a secular ruler like Pervez Musharraf, did never interfere the decisions of Ruit-i-Hilal Committee”. Munib said it was high time for the media and related people to realise the need of confirming Sharia-related news before releasing it.
He said a few private TV channels had run the slides that Eid moon was not sighted. Contrary to that, Ruit-i-Hilal Committee had not made any announcement in this regard, he said. Mufti Munib continued that later the same TV channels blamed that Ruit-i-Hilal Committee later changed the decision and announced that moon had been sighted while this story was completely wrong. He clarified that the central Ruit-i-Hilal Committee only once announced the final and conclusive decision of moon sighting. He expressed surprise that Radio Pakistan also released wrong news about moon sighting and thus put a question mark on the performance of Federal Information Ministry.
