The Folklore Society has been working with full capacity for building and promotion of desert-borne communities, such as the musicians of communities of Manganhaar and Bhill living in the desert regions of Pakistan.
She said that the literal meaning of word Manganhaar is a ‘beggar’, however it is also applied to a cohesive ethnic community that has a rich heritage of traditional folk music that lives on both sides of the Indo-Pak border.
Dr Fouzia pointed out that the effort of Folklore was to revive the music of this community which is dying. But, the musical instruments which have been used in folk music are not seen any more which is sad indeed. She offered making of such folk musical instruments on demand and can also be imported from our neighbour country.
She maintained that we should preach peace through reviving our folk music, which also contains the message of love and tolerance. She informed that the Culture Ministry was invited in the event but they didn’t show up to encourage the participants.
Meanwhile, the organiser of the event and the Director of the Folklore Society of Pakistan Yasser Noman said that many artists of the festival had opened up their own baithaks in interior Sindh because of the festival success.
