Mystery still shrouds Dr Afia's whereabouts
By MANSOOR KHAN August 6, 2008
To a query, Hussain replied that Afia's liberal way of life led to a dispute with her second husband. On the contrary, western media quoted her colleagues that Afia was a hardliner Muslim seeking the conversion of the US into a Muslim State and used to distribute books and other Islamic stuff among her colleagues and other people.
Whenever contacted, Dr. Fozia, the sister of Afia Siddiqui, declined to comment on the issue adding that she and her family could not say anything without the permission of Afia's lawyer as a petition for her release is under consideration in a US court.
She added that the case would be resolved soon.
Fauzia disclosed that they have found the whereabouts of Afia and her children but refused to provide further information.
When contacted Afia's nephew, Muhammad, said "how could I told you when I don't know about anything." Afia's family had also declined to pursue her case when deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry took suo moto action on the issue of missing persons. The name of Dr. Afia Siddiqui is also mentioned in the list of Human rights organisations.
Meanwhile, an official of a law enforcement agency told, on condition of anonymity, that the families of Afia and Amjad were reluctant to pursue the case at any forum and not even cooperated with the LEA in order to find her whereabouts.
He added that not a single complaint has so far been lodged on behalf of their families with any police station since the day of her disappearance.
He added that Afia's uncle had written a letter to the editor of a local newspaper, a couple of months after her missing, which brought the issue into public. He said that a federal minister in the previous government had strictly banned any contacts with Afia's family.
