Sugar price surges to Rs37 per kg
By RAMZAN CHANDIO October 5, 2008 KARACHI - The retail price of sugar has soared to Rs 37 per kg a few days before Eid holidays in the city.
The analysts attributed the less supply of commodity from mills behind the fresh surge in the price of white sweetener in the city.
The government has imposed ban on the export of sugar to control the increasing trend of price in local market as well as to curb the shortage of commodity in local market, but the ban on exports of sugar proved futile.
The retailers are charging up to Rs 37 per kg, Rs 2 more from the previous rate of Rs35 per kg in posh area, especially Defense and Clifton.
