Dictators never wanted free media

KARACHI - The representatives from different segments of life have strongly condemned the bill titled ‘Freedom of Information Bill (FIB) 2008’ and said that the Bill would curb the freedom of expression.

The representatives were expressing these views in a meeting held here at Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) house organised by Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) on Friday.

PPP leader Taj Haider, Amin Khatak of Awami National Party, Elahi Bakhsh Baloch of SPO, Joint Secretary of Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Advocate Iqbal Sufi, Advocate Waheed, Ms Saleh of Network for Women Rights, Mansoor Badhani of Peoples Labours Bureau PLB, and others spoke on the occasion.

Addressing the meeting, Haider expressed his concern over the bill and said that the bill was the continuation of the former bill. There was no any big change has been observed in the draft of the bill.
