Ex-Army men living in glass houses casting stones at their benefactors
By Zamir Sheikh June 8, 2008 Plato, the Greek philosopher who gave the concept of justice must be turning in his grave witnessing the ex Pakistan army men, the killers of yesteryears turning into sages and loftily talking about justice.
The retired generals who were responsible for the judicial killing of Pakistan's first elected Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Those who presided over the killing of thousands of Pakistanis in former East Pakistan and carried out flogging of intellectuals and journalists and political workers during General Zia's rule have suddenly speaking about justice as once done by the great Greek Philosopher.
These generals with greying eyebrows and wrinkled faces showing their ages have discarded guns and bullets the equipment of torture and death and are holding the scales of justice in their hands declaring that they will give justice to the citizens. They are vowing to bring to book General (R) Pervez Musharraf who toppled and elected Prime Minister Nawaz after the businessman Prime Minister messed up with his plans to displaced the general who was in mid air, with one who would have serve him like a slave rather than as a general.
These very generals were enjoying the perks and privileges when thy were uniform by accepting positions and honors granted by Pervez Musharraf. But when they saw the power slipping from the hands of former COAS, they left him like the mouse does when the ship is sinking. They are abandoning the man after enjoying all the favour during eight years.
One of the Generals with an acid tongue launched a frivolous and childish attack on his former boss criticising some of the events including Kargil episode and storming of Lal Masjid. General Gulzar Kiani was an important member of the military junta which toppled an elected government of Mian Nawaz Sharif in 1999.
