Experts seek women's role in water conservation
By RAMZAN CHANDIO November 8, 2008 KARACHI - The experts and elected representatives of local bodies in a training seminar have called for women involvement in water conservation awareness campaign, as they are the main users of domestic water.
The women training workshop was organised by Karachi Water Partnership (KWP), an initiative of Hisaar Foundation on Saturday in City.
The event was on approaches in an Urban Context for women of Karachi and attended by women water experts and women elected representatives of local bodies, and housewives from various areas of City.
The Stakeholder Training was supported by the International Network for Capacity Building (Cap-Net).
This Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) focused specifically on Women’s issues in urban water and sewerage while Pakistan Women Water Networks (WWN) South and the various WWN chapters, based in Karachi collaborated the event.
Simi Kamal, Chairperson of Hisaar Foundation and Karachi Water Partnership (KWP) chairing the third session opined that this workshop will provide a platform for women from different parts of Karachi to identify their problems as users of water, managers of domestic water and to develop their voice in city water issues. It also helped them to understand their role in IWRM, and water and sewerage issues in Karachi.
