Atta's resignation blow to education

KARACHI - The new threat has been emerged for the higher education sector of country after suffering the immense financial crisis in the tenure of newly elected democratic government, as the renowned scientist and educationist Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman tendered resignation on Thursday from the position of Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Dr Atta-ur-Rahman was the first chairman of the commission, who has been conferred with several national and international honours and medals, including Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Sitar-e-Imtiaz, FRS etc.

Prof Dr Jawed Laghari, Director Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) is the likely to replace Dr Atta. Sources concerned informed The Nation that Dr Salman Shiekh, former Director of SZABIST, is also a likely successor to that position.
