Zardari given jail reforms proposals

Senator Talha said it was decided in the meeting that arrangements should be made by the jail administration for production of prisoners in the court in lieu of local police and separate jail force should be recruited for this purpose.

“Prisoners should be detained in jails within the prescribed capacity and avoid handcuffs, fetters and chains to the detainees.

Separate jails for under-trial prisoners should be constructed in all districts and the accused should not be treated as convicts, he said while giving further details of his meeting with the President.

The condition of jail hospitals would be improved and medicines would be provided to the prisoners. New Barracks for male, female and juvenile prisoners need to be constructed at the earliest.

The fine of poor prisoners should be paid up through the different government funds like Baitul Mall, the senator concluded.
