Water Board takes charge of hydrant-tanker service

KARACHI - A high-level meeting chaired by City Nazim/Chairman Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Syed Mustafa Kamal Wednesday decided to withdrew all administrative charge of running the hydrants in 18 towns’ limits and to give it to Karachi Water & Sewerage Board.
The meeting was attended by City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil, DCO Karachi Javed Hanif, M.D KWSB Qutubuddin Shaikh, all Town Nazmeen and Naib Nazmeen, EDOs of City Government, Chief Engineer of KWSB and other officers.
The meeting also decided to close down all free water tanker service. Karachi Water & Sewerage Board will take on the administration of water tanker service and hydrants at central level.
Addressing the meeting Nazim Karachi said that the city government was following the policy of providing pure drinking water to each and every citizen at his home through taps. He also directed water board officials to expedite the pace of work in this connection and conduct survey of all such areas of the city which were still not having any proper water supply system.
He said that gradual steps should be taken for installation of water supply system in these areas so that the tanker service which already becomes a mafia could be removed permanently.
Nazim Karachi further said that being the only agency responsible for supply of water to whole city, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board should have all the control of supply of water within the city’s limit.
