Karachi Nazim works hard
By Yusuf Khan October 10, 2008 Mustafa Kamal, Nazim of the largest and the most populous city in Pakistan is working hard, day and night to improve this city of more than 17 million. This figure is always considered disputed because of political pressures. Unfortunately, Karachi remains a city disliked by both federal and provincial governments. The PPP broke this tradition and promoted city’s cause. Benazir Bhutto used to describe Karachi as her own and felt pride in calling herself ‘daughter of Karachi.’ Since the son of the city, Altaf Hussain is not returning despite assurance of his safety by genial chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Shah’s guarantee looks strange after what happened during Benazir Bhutto’s rally on October 18, 2008 at Karsaz. But Altaf Bhai’s man in the city is doing a great job by all standards.
MK should thank his stars and Altaf Hussain who proposed Asif Ai Zardari’s name for the top slot and silenced critics of MQM. Thus he saved in fact MK’s position as well since the PPP was all gearing up to dissolve city government and install its own nominated fellows.
