Pop icon Alamgir seriously ill in US

KARACHI - The great music maestro Alamgir, who is considered Pakistan’s legendary pop music icon is seriously ill.

His both kidneys have stopped functioning, a great admirer of Alamgir, ‘Hawa Hawa’-fame Hasan Jehangir, another popular singer broke the news of Alamgir’s ailment in Pakistan and informed the media and Alamgir’s fan that he is seriously ill and receiving treatment in the United States (US).

The news of Alamgir’s ailment spread like jungle fire among the music lovers and public at large.

Alamgir was born in 1954 to parents residing in East Pakistan. He left home at the age of 16 and came to Karachi in search of a better career like any ambitious youth.

He would sing day and night at Cafe D Khan, at Tariq Road, he amused the intellectual gatherings of the day, a meal a day he earned at the Cafe every day through his musical musings.

One fine day he was spotted and told to visit PTV. There he came face to face with Khusbakht Aliya, who used to conduct a show for the youth titled Ferozan. Though he clicked, but Khushbakht had already chosen someone else in his place as an artist. But as luck would have it, he did not go empty handed from there. Sohail Rana spotted the boy and then there was no turning back for Alamgir.
