Petition against power outages, Nepra put off

By SHAFI BALOCH November 12, 2008

KARACHI - A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Ghulam Dastgir Shahani on Wednesday adjourned hearing of a constitutional petition against un-announced loadshedding for a week.

The adjournment came on a request by the counsel for petitioner who sought time to make NEPRA a respondent in the petition. The petitioner Syed Iqbal Kazmi moved the court against KESC for unannounced and prolonged loadshedding and inflated bills. KESC questioned the maintainability of the petition on the grounds that it has been privatised and therefore could not be sued under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

KESC draws strength from a judgment of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
