KARACHI - At least four people were crushed to death when they fell from the edge of an underpass at Sohrab Goth and crushed under the wheels of speedy vehicles, The Nation learnt here on Thursday.
This gory incident was not happened due to violation of traffic laws but were killed because they slept on the edge of the roof of the underpass.
In deep sleep they fell down on the road and crushed to death by vehicles passing over there.
Sources in the TCD said that the matter was discussed in the meeting of TCD and RTI and it was decided to have a joint visit of the said location. In this regard the officers of RSE, TCD and RTI had jointly inspected the site and after having views of the people from the site, it has been found that the side safety wall of the underpass has inadequate height and people treat it as a median and usually sleep on it.
During the deep sleep they fell on the road of the underpass and vehicles pass through this route either seriously injured or crushed them to death.
The visiting team on the site also found that pedestrians while crossing the road at Shahrah-e-Pakistan (from Water Pump towards Al-Asif Square) do not judge the road status and fell down on the underpass due to which they seriously injured.
